Free knitting pattern: Heart Square

Show a child just how much they are loved, by rendering a heart right into their blanket square.
To make the Heart Square, cast on 33 stitches.
Rows 1-8: Knit
Row 9 and every alternate (right-side) row: Knit
Row 10: k16, p1, k16
Row 12: k15, p3, k15
Row 14: k14, p5, k14
Row 16: k13, p7, k13
Row 18: k12, p9, k12
Row 20: k11, p11, k11
Row 22: k10, p13, k10
Row 24: k9, p15, k9
Row 26: k8, p17, k8
Row 28: k7, p19, k7
Row 30: k6, p21, k6
Row 32: k5, p23, k5
(if you want less pointy edges repeat Row 32 after next knit row)
Row 34: k6, p10, k1, p10, k6
Row 36: k7, p8, k3, p8, k7
Row 38: k8, p6, k5, p6, k8
Row 40: k9, p4, k7, p4, k9
Row 42: k10, p2, k9, p2, k10 (optional row, depends how pointed you want the top of heart)
Next row: knit for 9 more rows.
Cast off, leaving a 20” (50cm) tail which is used for sewing the squares together.
Weave in all yarn ends.
Leave a 20” (50cm) tail, used for sewing the squares together. Butterfly the tail to the square.
