Free knitting pattern: Gemma’s Square

Pattern for use by kind permission of Zanny Lovemore Blew
Zanny adapted the basket weave pattern to make a baby blanket for Gemma, her great-niece and Ronda’s grand-daughter.
Zanny is Sandy’s mother and Ronda’s sister.
To make Gemma’s Square, using 2 strands of yarn together, cast on 24 stitches.
Row 1: Knit to end
Row 2: * P2, k1* to end
Row 3: Knit to end
Row 4: *P2, K1* to end
These 4 rows form the pattern.
Next row: Continue knitting rows 1-4 until work measures 8” (20cm).
Cast off, leaving a 20” (50cm) tail which is used for sewing the squares together.
Combine a bright colour and a complementary colour to make an interesting basket weave square.
Weave in all yarn ends.
Leave a 20” (50cm) tail, used for sewing the squares together. Butterfly the tail to the square.
