Free knitting pattern: Framed Stripes Square

Pattern for use by kind permission of Anne Connor
The Framed Stripes Square has an interesting and attractive textured centre.
It also uses up the small balls of yarn sitting at the bottom of your knitting basket.
Make the square with as many colours as you like but remember to weave in all the ends.
Colours changes are made by twisting the colours in back of work. For more detailed instructions, Google ‘Intarsia knitting video.’
To make the Framed Stripes Square, with MC, cast on 35 stitches
Rows 1-9: With MC, knit across
Row 10: With MC, K5, P25, K5
Twist C1, C2, and SMC as you come to them to keep them running up the back neatly.
Row 1: With MC, K5; add C1 and K25; add SMC and K5
Row 2: With SMC, K5; switch to C1 and K25; switch to MC and K5
Row 3: With MC, K5; add C2 and K25; switch to SMC and K5

Repeat Rows 1 to 6 until 7 patterns have been completed (42 rows have been worked from beginning of striped rows).
Rows 53-60: With MC, knit. You may need an extra row to reach 8” (20cm). Measure before casting off.
Cast off, leaving a 20” (50cm) tail which is used for sewing the squares together.
