Free knitting pattern: Chunky Rib Beanie

Knit Hat_Chunky Rib Beanie PDF
Pattern for use by kind permission of Wendy Hinson
A blanket can keep almost all of a child warm, but they still need something to protect their heads from the cold! Please make sure that this Chunky Rib Beanie is large enough to fit a child’s head. Proportionally, a four year old’s head is almost the size of an adult, so please keep that in mind when you are knitting. If the hat fits you, it will fit a child.
Two strands of yarn are used throughout.
K2tog: Knit two stitches together
To make the Chunky Rib Beanie, using 2 strands of yarn, cast on 60 sts.
Knit in K2, P2 rib until hat measures 6.5” (16.5cm).
Row 1: K2tog, P2. (45 sts)
Row 2: K1, P2.
Row 3: K1, P2tog .(30 sts)
Row 4: K1, P1.
Row 5: K1, K2tog. (20 sts)
Row 6: Knit.
Row 7: K2tog. (10 sts)
Cut yarn leaving a tail of approximately 18” (50cm).
With a large eyed yarn needle, thread this tail through the remaining 10 sts, gather up tightly and secure. Use this thread to join a back seam on the wrong side of the work. Fasten off neatly and darn in ends.
Sew seam.
