Crochet Square_Jigsaw Square PDF
Pattern for use by kind permission of Andrea Palmatier
This square has a step pattern crossing diagonally. By choosing complementary colours, this can create a wonderful effect.
Materials and Tools
- Light worsted weight yarn (American)/DK (UK)/8 ply (Aus)
- 4.5mm/US 7 hook
- A chart has also been included in these instructions.
Note: Pattern uses American terminology
|slip stitch (sl st)
||= single crochet (sc)
|single crochet (sc)
||= double crochet (dc)
With Color A, chain 29 (or a multiple of 4 plus 1).
Row 1: Sc in 2nd chain from hook and across; ch 1, turn. (28)
Rows 2-4: Sc in each st across; ch 1, turn. At the end of the 4th row, change to Color B.
Note: When changing from colour A to colour B, pull up the first loop for the single crochet in colour A, then pull colour B through the last two loops to complete the stitch. Crochet over the unused yarn as it is carried along the wrong side of the work. This hides the strand and eliminates having a loop of yarn carried across the back of the work.

Alternatively, you can follow the pattern with the chart to the right.
Work the square reading the chart from the bottom. Read the right side rows from right to left and the wrong side rows from left to right.
Row 1 starts the right side.
Try different colour combinations, or blend normal yarn with a lightweight novelty yarn for an interesting visual and tactile twist.
Weave in all yarn ends.
Leave a 20” (50cm) tail, used for sewing the squares together. Butterfly the tail to the square.
